Reduce Stress: It’s All in the Breathing

When you feel stressed, your muscles tighten, your stomach knots up, your breathing quickens, and you begin to feel nauseous. You can’t focus on anything, and all you can focus on is the fact that you feel stressed. Anybody who has ever felt stress knows how consuming it can be. For this reason, everyone should know a way to reduce stress, and just like everybody feels stress differently, there are different ways to reduce stress. A great and very successful way to reduce stress is to control your breathing.

Calm Down

To reduce stress, you have to calm yourself down. Surely you’ve heard that if you feel stressed you should stop what you’re doing and count to ten. It sounds common place, but there is a lot of truth to this technique. Part of the reason why this technique works is that, by stopping and counting, you are actually slowing your breathing down. That is the key to reducing stress. By slowing your breathing down, you are calming yourself down. Soon, after a few moments, your stress will just melt away.

Deep Breathing

Try this trick to reduce stress – next time you feel stressed, take several long, deep breaths. You can count if you want to but it’s not necessary. By slowing your breathing, you are helping yourself to reduce stress. If you breathe like this several times, you will actually feel less stressed until you don’t feel stressed at all.

Sometimes, something can cause so much stress that normal methods won’t get rid of it. Some stresses will only go away with the help of a therapist or medication. If you think your case is this severe, don’t feel bad, many people feel this kind of stress. Only by seeking help can one hope to rid themselves of this kind of stress forever. For those with normal amounts of stress, however, controlling your breathing will reduce stress and will help you feel better.

Stress can affect all aspects of our home lives, our work lives, our social lives, and virtually every aspect of our beings. By learning to control it, we can improve all these aspects of our lives and will actually be happier. So, do yourself a favor and learn to reduce stress by trying to control your breathing and calming yourself down. You’ll see, in no time your stress will go away, and you can once more focus on the things you want to focus on.
