Stress Management
David Richards
Regardless of who you are or what your situation is, it is important to practice stress management to maintain your mental and physical health. In today's busy world it may seem like you have so many responsibilities and obligations that you never get a chance to slow down enough to worry about stress management. However, if you are very busy, because of the effect excessive stress can have on your mind and body, you cannot afford not to practice stress management. If you have a high stress level for a long period of time, it can begin to affect your physical health and make life much less enjoyable. Stress, over time, will wear you down physically, resulting in a loss of energy, which puts you into a cycle of just maintaining and not taking the time to enjoy life. This loss of energy will you affect all aspects of your life, including your mood and overall quality of life. Since you are tired and not in a good mood, you will not feel like doing anything extra, and if you do, it will not be as enjoyable. Since you are not enjoying much, it will seem like you don't have fun anymore and just go from obligation to obligation like a robot. Eventually it will seem like you don't have much to look forward to, which will bring your mood down even further, keeping you in this cycle of fulfilling responsibilities without enjoying life. Although everyone does tend to fall into this stress cycle at different points, effective stress management can make getting out of this cycle, or avoiding it altogether, much easier. All stress management techniques are designed to provide some kind of relief from the stress that builds and, at times, overwhelms us all. The most important thing is to find stress management techniques that help you relax and think through your problems or forget about them for a while. Because of the physical aspect of stress, you may not feel like doing any exercise or getting out at all, but you have to get out and do something or you will fall into the stress cycle. You will feel much better even if you go for a walk once a week. Many people benefit from light workouts such as walking, aerobics, or yoga. All these activities give you an outlet for the negative energy that is caused by stress. Exercise also gets blood flowing to all parts of your body and gives you some time to think sort out what is going on in your life, or to forget about everything for a little while. Finding the perfect technique to eliminate stress is going to be impossible. There is no miracle answer, and what works for each individual is very much a personal thing. Try a wide range of activities or ways you think will help reduce stress, and find out what is most effective in releasing your tensions. When you do discover what works, practice your stress relief techniques on a regular, constant basis to get the maximum balance and enjoyment from life that you can.
